The Importance of Open Innovation in an Organization

“Open innovation was defined as the use of purposive inflows and outflows of knowledge to accelerate internal innovation, and expand the markets for external use of innovation, respectively” (Chesbrough, 2003).

The idea behind open innovation is to share information with the outside, while listening to the feedback and suggestions. This model was initially proven in higher education, allowing students to actively discuss their ideas while receiving feedback from their professors. However, the model has also translated well in the business world, enabling businesses to test their ideas and receive the necessary input to fine tune their offerings.

SecureShare Cloud – a content sharing and collaboration workspace – was designed to leverage mobility and improve productivity.  The features and capabilities of SecureShare map nicely with the open innovation model, enabling users to securely share information with targeted groups for the purpose of constructive product feedback.

SecureShare believes that content in an open innovation organization should be easily:
  • Accessible
  • Stored
  • Shared
  • Secured
